I am on the ferry from Tsawwassen to Duke Point. The sky is overcast and the hills on the horizon are hiding behind a curtain of drizzle. The ship is the main connector of the mainland of British Columbia and the beautiful stretch of land called Vancouver Island. Usually, I’d rather take the other route from the Vancouver ferry terminal going straight to Swartz Bay on the southern most tip of the island. From there it’s only a short bus ride to the province’s capital of Victoria. However today, my good buddy is going to pick me up at Duke Point in Nanaimo, a small town further north up island – the place where I literally had stranded about six years ago after my rather eventful road trip from southern Alberta in 2011.

Gran Canaria: Europe’s least-known Surf Mekka

Winter’s rapping at our doors, the days are getting even shorter and snow and ice greet us in the mornings. Summer feels like an eternity away. No wonder we start dreaming about past adventures full of sunshine, heat and ocean. My summer dreams of course, are mostly about surfing, but also about lazy days at the beach, hanging out with friends and sharing water melons for lunch break. Lässt Dich nie mehr los: Der Mythos von Mütterchen Prag

„Das Mütterchen hat Krallen“, schreibt der tschechische Schriftstelle Franz Kafka über seine Heimatstadt. Wenig wird der Besucher heute von der von Kafka beschriebenen beklemmende Enge und Düsternis bemerken – die Metropole hat ihr autoritäres Gewandt abgestreift. Was bleibt ist der Hauch der sprichwörtlichen Prager Melancholie, die im Spätherbst und Winter in den Gassen der „Goldenen Stadt“ beinahe mit Händen zu greifen ist. Wer dem Prager Mythos einmal verfallen ist, den lässt er so schnell nicht wieder los..!
